celebrating five years of First Nations Bedtime Stories in 2024.

common ground brings First nations knowledge and stories to homes and classrooms around the continent.
five stories, five days

From Wiradjuri Country in the east to Noongar Boodjar in the west – this year we're sharing beautiful First Nations stories captured over the past five years from across the continent.

stories have played a central role in First Nations cultures since time immemorial. They are the foundation of First Nations ways of thinking, being and knowing. They carry knowledge and Law, and teach us how to care for Country.

This year Common Ground celebrates five years of working with different First Nations creatives and community to capture and share stories as old as time and bring them to your home, classroom or workplace.

To mark this special occasion in First Nations storytelling, we are reflecting and sharing stories from each year in celebration of the vast, diverse and profound wisdom of First Nations communities across the continent.

We will hear beautiful stories from Noongar, Wiradjuri, Nyikina, Warlpiri and Luritja Nations for people of all ages and places. They will be shared online over five days from 28 October to 1 November 2024.

Each year Common Ground work with teachers to develop educational resource that accompany each series to help with understanding each story and their meaning, and strengthen knowledge of First Nations cultures, knowledge and perspectives.

This year we worked with The Yulang Effect to develop a central resource to cover each theme in celebration of five years of First Nations Bedtime Stories.

reflections on First Nations Bedtime Stories

"These stories help me have meaningful conversations with my students. It gives me as a Wadjela (white person) a way to elevate the voices of First Nations people in my classroom in a meaningful way."

- teacher

"First Nations Bedtimes Stories is such an empowering and uplifting project that is First Nations-led throughout every stage. We were so lucky to have two coolinga (children) as our hosts for the Noongar season, and it was a joy to watch them engage with Elders over the week and watch their growth in not only working with film, but learning more about their culture."

- filmmaker

“The Bedtime Stories have totally inspired us to seek out more Indigenous storytelling and to really connect with Country at any opportunity. We feel a deeper connection now and I'm so grateful for the learnings that have come from these stories.”
